Honor Their Sacrifice
Since 1912 some 340 Kentuckians have died on foreign battlefields or working
to save fellow citizens from natural disasters.
To construct a memorial at the entrance to Boone National Guard Center
honoring all Kentucky Guardsmen who have perished in the line of duty in the
modern Kentucky National Guard, in any duty status, from March 1912 to
present. The mission shall be accomplished through private support from
Kentucky’s citizens, corporations and foundations.
The Kentucky National Guard Memorial will create a sacred space for families,
friends, comrades to reflect and remember. It will create a classroom for
those wishing to learn about service to the state and the nation as well as
the cost of freedom. This memorial will serve long past our lifetimes and,
because of its location, will always be a lasting reminder of National Guard
service to all those who pass through the gates of the Kentucky National
Guard. It will link the sacrifices of the past with the service of the
present and the challenges for the future.
A large granite Kentucky will serve as the focal point of this sacred space
displaying the names of the fallen. A larger than life bronze statue of
Daniel Boone will stand watch over them.
The Kentucky National Guard Memorial Fund, Inc. was created in October 2008
as a non-profit Kentucky corporation and was granted tax exempt status as a
public charity 501(c)(3) by the Internal Revenue Service in February 2009.
